Our founder, William Henry Merrill, was hired to investigate the fires at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition, a world’s fair that took place in Chicago. Over a century later, and we are still contending with similar issues —short circuits, faulty wiring, shoddy manufacturing; anything that could cause a product to catch fire.

Advances in materials, design and construction techniques offer new benefits but also present new challenges and risks, making fire more dangerous today than it was in the past. Through analysis of field data and conduction of live burn experiments, we expand our understanding of fire behaviours and continue to progress safety science across this increasingly complex Fire Safety ecosystem. We innovate computational modelling techniques to more extensively examine potential fire risks while studying electrical fires to gain new insights about this growing hazard.

We provide customized services, fire safety testing, certification and training for manufacturers, regulatory authorities, building owners, insurance companies and the fire safety community. Our services span the entire life cycle of a product. We offer technical consultations and guidance throughout product development by testing to ascertain anticipated product performance and reliability. Some of these products include:

  • Carbon Monoxide Alarms
  • Egress Signs & Devices
  • Emergency Alarms
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • Flammable & Combustible Liquid Equipment
  • Fire Alarms
  • Fire Apparatus & Equipment
  • Fire Resistance Doors
  • Fire Resistive & Circuit
  • Pipes & Fitting
  • Pumps & Engines
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Smoke Alarms & Detectors
  • Water Mist Systems Intergrity Cables
  • Fire Sprinklers & Components
  • Valves
